Welcome to a resource of supplemental tobacco education information brought to you by the Lassen County Public Health Tobacco Use Reduction Program.
The Lassen County Office of Education through the Title IV program has purchased tobacco education curriculum for each teacher.Title IV programs are overseen by a consortium of representatives from schools, as well as community partners. Through input from the consortium, the Lassen County Public Health Tobacco Use Reduction Program has compiled this supplemental resource for grades Preschool to 12. These materials expand information and activities available for teachers, children, and families to use as tobacco health education is taught in classrooms.
We hope you incorporate the supplemental materials in your classroom activities, and as you teach the health risks of tobacco use, you find the supplemental information helpful in expanding your interaction with children and families. If you have questions or would like to provide input to this project, please contact the Lassen County Public Health Tobacco Use Reduction Program at 530-257-9600,
Extension 14.
The graphic design of the disc as well as the technical skills required in formatting this web based resource, have been provided by Benjamin Johnson, a Lassen High School senior involved with the Lassen Environmental Applied Partnership Program (LEAPP), Dawn Egan, Instructor. We appreciate their time and energy and thank them greatly.
The development and distribution of this resource kit was made possible by funds from the Tobacco Tax Health Protection Act of 1988, Proposition 99 of the California Department of Public Health Tobacco Control Section under contract # 07-18 and the Lassen County Public Health Tobacco Use Reduction Program.

"Its Dandy to be Tobacco Free," is my motto. I was born a fire-breathing dragon in Lassen County in 1991 but I soon learned the truth about the dangers of blowing smoke, especially tobacco smoke. For many years I have been busy teaching young and old alike of the hazards and consequences of using tobacco products. It’s never too soon to learn that smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco is harmful to everyone. I am a symbol for policy change, both personal and public. I always encourage parents to set a positive example for their children by quitting smoking or chewing tobacco. I know it is hard to quit using tobacco. If it is not possible to quit yet, I encourage families to set personal policies that prevent the role modeling of tobacco use to children, and that also keep children free from exposure to secondhand smoke. There is no safe place for smoking indoors or in cars. If you know someone who needs help quitting give them these numbers: 1-800-NO-BUTTS, or 1-800-844-CHEW.
Join me in using the resources on this disc to continue educating students and families about the importance of living a tobacco free life! Thanks for your help and have a DANDY day!
